November 04, 2005I\'m watching \'Une Femme de ménage\'... without subtitles. I recognize almost all of the words they are saying, but don\'t understand any of it. How familiar...
Due to this lack of translational ability I haven\'t been paying much attention to the action in the film, however a few things struck a note that I wasn\'t prepared for.
The sounds of the streets of Paris at night echoing in the main character\'s open window, the hissing of the train pulling up in the metro... i didn\'t realize how elevated my state of awareness must have been when I was there - that these sounds seem more familiar to me than the sounds outside my own apartment.
Très étrange.
