God punishes who?

I am almost certain that some of you might have a response to this, but I have a question. I have not gone into diligent study about this, so help me out, please.
With the exception of Job, who was "tested" by God, where in the Bible was anyone "punished" by God or His people for any reason except that they either turned their backs on God, or persecuted His people?

God punished people when they would turn their backs on Him, or when they persecuted His people.
Where else in the Bible were people punished by God, and why?

Wasn't someone struck dumb for doubting God's promise to give his wife a child? I'm embarassed I can't remember his name, but it may have been Elizabeth's husband (father of John the baptist).

Yeah, but he was struck dumb for doubting God's promise. He turned his back on God, at least as far as that situation went.
